One might ask, with AAD already offered on Azure, why was there a  need for  a separate B2C offering for external customers?

The answer is two fold

  1. The VOLUME of external customers far outweighs that of internal customers. This is true for most organizations. Hence, for pure scalability concerns, a separate tenant was devised by Microsoft.
  2. The ability to CUSTOMIZE the user (customer) experience is a key differentiator between AAD B2C and regular AAD.
